Abstract

In 1920, the Treaty of Sèvres proposed creating an independent Armenia and an autonomous Kurdistan from former Ottoman lands. Armenian and Kurdish leaders briefly aligned, but Turkish nationalists led by Mustafa Kemal rejected the treaty, fighting a war of independence that replaced Sèvres with the Treaty of Lausanne, leaving both nations without the envisioned territories
