| dc.description.abstract | On March 29, 1936, at the Grand Amphithéâtre of the Sorbonne University, the Armenian community of Paris and French intellectuals celebrated the 1500th anniversary of the creation of the Armenian alphabet. This significant event also coincided with the translation of the Bible into Armenian. For its unparalleled linguistic, literary and theological value, the French scholar Frederic Krol called it the “Queen of Translations”. The anniversary is a testament to the enormous historical and cultural mission carried out by Mesrop Mashtots, which served as the basis for the continuity of Armenian identity, literature and enlightenment. Prominent scientists and religious figures participated in the event. Leading intellectuals such as linguist Antoine Mayen and historian Charles Diehl contributed to the commemorative ceremony. Speeches were given by Armenian and French representatives, including Bishop Garegin Hovsepyan, Arsham Chobanyan, Nicolas Adonts, Gabriel Millet, and Amédée Gastoux | |
